HIVE adds Nexmosphere sensor integration for interactive media experiences

New integration connects HIVE media playback with real-world sensor input for museums, attractions and interactive installations

HIVE Media Control, a specialist provider of compact media servers, has announced native integration with Nexmosphere, enabling its award-winning Beeblade media players to connect directly with Nexmosphere’s extensive range of sensors and controllers to create responsive, interactive media experiences.

Developed in response to demand from system integrators, the integration expands the options available for bringing interactivity into HIVE-powered installations, allowing physical actions and real-world data to trigger and influence digital content.

Nexmosphere develops sensors and controls for interactive digital experiences, spanning technologies including presence and motion detection, RFID, touch and push buttons, object detection, Lift & Learn, weight sensing and LiDAR.

Through the new integration, Nexmosphere sensors can connect with HIVE via USB or Ethernet, with data from multiple sensors available directly within HIVE’s Dataflow environment. HIVE supports Nexmosphere’s interface boxes and the majority of its sensor portfolio, giving integrators the flexibility to combine different forms of interaction within a single HIVE installation.

A new Data Matching module enables simple rules, such as triggering content when a visitor enters a particular zone or presses a button. For more sophisticated interactions, a new Scripting module supports JavaScript, allowing integrators to build customised logic around the data received from sensors.

In practice, an exhibit could automatically launch content when a visitor approaches, switch to an interactive interface when somebody stands in front of a display, or use RFID to identify an object and trigger corresponding video content. HIVE can also send commands back to supported Nexmosphere devices, enabling elements such as LED lighting to respond as part of the experience.

“This integration is about giving our customers more ways to connect HIVE with the world around it. Nexmosphere has a fantastic range of sensors that many system integrators already know and use, so bringing native support into HIVE gives them even more freedom to create interactive experiences.

Whether it’s a visitor approaching an exhibit, picking up an object or pressing a button, that information can now flow straight into HIVE and determine what happens next. Combined with Dataflow and scripting, there’s huge scope for creating sophisticated and personalised experiences.”

Nigel Sadler, Chief Pollinator at HIVE Media Control

The integration works across HIVE’s Beeblade media player range and continues HIVE’s commitment to an open ecosystem, giving integrators the freedom to combine its media playback platform with the technologies best suited to each project.

“By combining Nexmosphere’s sensor platform with HIVE’s media playback and control capabilities, integrators can easily connect digital content with what is happening in the physical environment. Together, we’re making it easier to create engaging, responsive experiences that react naturally to visitors and their surroundings.”

Hubert van Doorne, CEO at Nexmosphere

The new Nexmosphere integration will be demonstrated on the HIVE stand (S4736) at IAAPA Expo Europe 2026, taking place at ExCeL London from 22–24 September 2026, where visitors can experience HIVE’s latest interactive capabilities first-hand.

The integration will be available as part of the latest HIVE software release.

HIVE Media Control partners with DWR Distribution to expand into South Africa

New distribution partnership brings HIVE’s scalable media playback solutions to South African AV and entertainment markets.

HIVE Media Control, a UK-based specialist in professional media playback, has appointed DWR Distribution as a distributor in South Africa, expanding access to its award-winning range of media players and control solutions across the region.

Founded in 2006, DWR Distribution is one of South Africa’s leading distributors of professional AV and entertainment technology, serving customers across live events, theatre, houses of worship, broadcast, architectural, commercial and installation markets. With premises in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, and extensive workshop, training and demonstration facilities, DWR combines product distribution with hands-on technical expertise and ongoing customer support.

The partnership will give DWR customers access to HIVE’s complete product portfolio, built around its award-winning Beeblade media engines and modular enclosures. DWR will initially hold local stock of selected Beeblade models and enclosures, while offering access to the wider HIVE range for projects requiring different levels of performance and scale.

“DWR has an outstanding reputation in South Africa, not just for the technology it supplies but for the expertise and support that sits behind it.

They understand the types of ambitious visual projects HIVE was designed for and have the technical capability to support customers from initial specification through to deployment and ongoing service. We’re really excited to have them representing HIVE and helping us establish a much stronger presence in the region.”

HIVE’s compact, scalable architecture offers an alternative to traditional media server systems for applications ranging from projection mapping and immersive experiences to LED displays, live events and interactive installations. Built on the Intel® SDM platform, HIVE’s Beeblade media players can slot directly into compatible displays and projectors, eliminating the need for a separate media server. For other applications, Beeblade players can be housed in HIVE’s compact enclosures, providing the same flexible platform for standalone and rack-mounted deployments.

For DWR, HIVE adds a flexible media playback platform that complements its existing expertise in projection, AV and entertainment technology. The partnership follows discussions between the two companies at ISE 2026, where DWR was introduced to the latest HIVE platform and its expanding software capabilities.

“HIVE is an exciting addition to the DWR portfolio and gives us a powerful, scalable and cost-effective media playback solution for our customers.

We see strong opportunities across the markets we serve, particularly where customers need sophisticated media playback without the complexity and cost traditionally associated with high-end media servers. The HIVE team has built a really impressive platform and we’re looking forward to introducing it to customers across South Africa.”

Duncan Riley, Managing Director at DWR Distribution

DWR’s experience in projection mapping and complex visual projects, together with its qualified technical team, will enable it to provide a complete service around HIVE – spanning sales and specification through to deployment, training and after-sales support. DWR already provides training and workshops as part of its wider customer offering, alongside technical support and demonstration facilities.

HIVE products are available now from DWR Distribution in South Africa, with local stock, technical support and demonstration facilities. Customers can contact DWR to discuss upcoming projects, arrange a demonstration or learn more about the HIVE range.
